We had a few Sydney-based slate companies to repair the slate roof after storm damage, with not a great outcome, including cracked slates remaining and several leaks through, inferior workmanship..  I then called Oliver Stearman at Slate Roof Restorations who was able to fix all problems, including the  water leaks and secure the roof, without over- promising and under-delivering, which was a constant with the previous companies. Not necessarily. High quality slate that has lasted a century often has decades of life still left in it. On many older Double Bay homes, the tiles themselves remain sound while the flashings, ridge caps, and fixings around them have aged. Rather than replacing a roof that doesn’t need it, we work with what’s already there, repairing, repointing, and resealing to extend the life of the original slate.

Yes. We use reclaimed slate wherever possible to match the aged colour and texture of your existing tiles. On Double Bay’s heritage homes, where the character of the roof is part of the property’s appeal, a repair that looks seamless matters as much as one that performs well. We take the time to source the right match before any work begins.

It depends on what your roof needs, but common repairs include replacing cracked or slipping tiles, repointing ridge caps, resealing flashings, and removing moss or lichen buildup. Some jobs are straightforward and completed in a day. Others involve more detailed work across multiple areas of the roof. We’ll inspect first and give you a clear picture of what’s involved before anything is touched.

Double Bay falls under Woollahra Council, which has heritage conservation guidelines covering many of the suburb’s older properties. If your home is heritage-listed or within a conservation area, roofing work will need to meet specific requirements around materials, colour, and method.
