Our Team & History

About The Team

Slate Roof Restorations was founded in 2019. Oliver Stearman lived on the border of England and Wales only a mere 3o minutes from the original Welsh quarries that provided some of the first famous slate. Having worked and trained in England and Wales, he brings the classical elements of traditional slating but with a modern Australian twist.

The team has worked with some of the biggest names in the slating game and the combination of their English, Welsh, and Australian heritage (and with their long history and passion for roofing) can be seen in the beautiful work they produce.

A Brief History Behind Slate

People have been quarrying slate in Wales for over 1800 years. Slate had many uses, but it wasn’t until the 18th century Industrial Revolution that the Slate roofing industry really began. Small villages in England started to gain in popularity due to the coming of mills and factories. The demand for Slate came from the need to roof the long terraces of houses built for workers. Australia saw its first Slate during the Colonial years when Slate came over on trading vessels as ballast from England. Australia was quick to adopt Slate due to its durability and longevity against the harsh Australian elements and remains true to this day.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot speak more highly of Oliver & his team. He was efficient, committed, punctual, polite, professional & dedicated to get our roof back into great shape. He came when he said he would & even let me know when he couldn't make it - something that doesn't generally happen!! Oliver came out twice to replace valleys & broken slate tiles & I can defiantly say I would have him back in a flash if necessary in the future. Thank you Oliver & Luke - highly recommended!!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We engaged Oliver in relation to the restoration of our slate roof.
He agreed to carry out an initial assessment of the roof at no cost and as a result of the assessment, we agreed on the works to be carried out.
Oliver and his team were punctual and easy to communicate with. They carried out the repairs to a high standard and at a reasonable cost. They respected our property and cleaned up at the end of each days work.
Based on the works carried out at our property, I have no hesitation in recommending Oliver / Slate Roof Restorations.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Unreservedly recommend, and I'm a hard marker. SRR completely restored our heritage listed house's slate roof in a heritage listed street in Woollahra with a level of professionalism and civility rarely seen these days, not to mention the very competitive costings -- proud owner of the best roof in the street.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was a pleasure to have the Slate Roof Restorations team re-slate our federation home on Sydney's north shore. Professional, consultative, communicative and perfect clean-up after the job. The roof looks spectacular and our prior issues with water leaks and possums have completely been addressed. Cannot recommend them highly enough.
