Reclaimed or New Slate for Heritage Work
Where possible, heritage roofing jobs in Sydney can use reclaimed slate: old tiles salvaged from demolished or re-roofed buildings, sorted and graded so only sound tiles go back on your roof.
It’s the closest colour and texture match to existing slate, and it’s usually the strongest position with heritage consultants and councils, since it’s proven material and doesn’t need years to weather in.
When reclaimed slate isn’t available in the size or quantity a job needs, we source new slate. Welsh slate is the traditional choice, and what most Sydney heritage roofs were originally laid with in the 1800s. New slate is consistent and will last 80 to 100-plus years installed properly, but it can take five to fifteen years to weather in and blend with the surrounding roof.
