Slate Roof Restoration and Repairs in Bellevue Hill

Bellevue Hill homes were built to stand out and slate roofing plays a big part in that.
From Federation-era estates to interwar classics, this suburb has some of Sydney’s finest examples of slate-tiled architecture.
These roofs weren’t just built to impress, they were built to last. And restoring them properly takes experience.

Our story began over 30 years ago in the Welsh quarry regions that supplied the very slate many of Bellevue Hill’s original roofs were made from. We trained with master slaters, working on buildings that had already stood for more than a century. Today, that same attention to detail and respect for tradition guides every repair and restoration we complete across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

We work with premium slate-Welsh Penrhyn, Canadian Glendyne, Spanish Cafersa. We use and match reclaimed tiles where needed to preserve the roof’s look and value. Whether it’s a minor repair or a full heritage restoration, we make sure your roof is built to last without compromising its character.

If your roof is part of Bellevue Hills story, we’d be proud to help it last another century.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot speak more highly of Oliver & his team. He was efficient, committed, punctual, polite, professional & dedicated to get our roof back into great shape. He came when he said he would & even let me know when he couldn't make it - something that doesn't generally happen!! Oliver came out twice to replace valleys & broken slate tiles & I can defiantly say I would have him back in a flash if necessary in the future. Thank you Oliver & Luke - highly recommended!!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We engaged Oliver in relation to the restoration of our slate roof.
He agreed to carry out an initial assessment of the roof at no cost and as a result of the assessment, we agreed on the works to be carried out.
Oliver and his team were punctual and easy to communicate with. They carried out the repairs to a high standard and at a reasonable cost. They respected our property and cleaned up at the end of each days work.
Based on the works carried out at our property, I have no hesitation in recommending Oliver / Slate Roof Restorations.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Unreservedly recommend, and I'm a hard marker. SRR completely restored our heritage listed house's slate roof in a heritage listed street in Woollahra with a level of professionalism and civility rarely seen these days, not to mention the very competitive costings -- proud owner of the best roof in the street.

Bellevue Hill Slate Roofing FAQs

Have questions about our roofing services or process? Find clear answers to some of the most common inquiries below.

Bellevue Hill’s original Federation-era and interwar roofs were often laid with Welsh Penrhyn slate, one of the finest roofing slates ever quarried. Today we work with Welsh Penrhyn, Canadian Glendyne, and Spanish Cafersa slate, both new and reclaimed, so we can find the right match for your roof’s age, style, and heritage requirements.

Yes, and it’s something we take seriously. On Bellevue Hill’s prominent heritage homes, a repair that stands out visually can affect both the character and value of the property. We blend reclaimed slate where possible to match the aged tone and texture of the existing roof, and we repoint ridge caps and reseal flashings to ensure everything looks consistent and intentional.

Bellevue Hill falls under Woollahra Council, which has heritage conservation guidelines covering many of the suburb’s older properties. If your home is heritage-listed or within a conservation area, roofing work will need to meet specific requirements around materials and method. We’re experienced working within these guidelines and can advise you on what applies before any work begins.

Absolutely. Federation estates and interwar homes make up some of Bellevue Hill’s most distinctive architecture, and restoring their roofs properly requires an understanding of traditional methods and period materials. We trained with master slaters in the Welsh quarry regions that originally supplied much of Sydney’s heritage slate, and that background directly informs how we approach every restoration in the Eastern Suburbs.

The slate itself is often the last thing to fail. On many older Bellevue Hill homes, the tiles remain in good condition while the battens, sarking, and fixings beneath them have deteriorated. We inspect every roof carefully and give you an honest recommendation, targeted repairs where the structure supports it, or a full restoration where ongoing patching would cost more in the long run.

Very. We understand that many of our clients in Bellevue Hill value privacy and a tidy worksite. Our crew is organised and respectful, and we work directly, no subcontractors or middlemen. From access planning to site cleanup, we treat every property with the same care we’d want shown to our own.
