Welsh Slate, The gold standard. Welsh slate, particularly from the Penrhyn and Ffestiniog quarries, has been the preferred choice for premium Australian homes since the colonial era. Dense, durable and available in distinctive blue-grey and purple tones.
Spanish Slate, A quality alternative to Welsh slate, Spanish slate offers excellent durability at a more accessible price point. Available in a range of grey and black tones that complement many Sydney homes.

Welsh slate is denser and generally considered the premium option, it’s the material you’ll find on many of Sydney’s oldest and finest homes. Spanish slate is an excellent alternative with strong durability characteristics, typically at a lower price point.

Natural slate has a distinctly different look and feel from concrete or terracotta tiles. Slate is thinner, has natural variation in colour and texture, and produces a distinctive sound when tapped. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to take a look.

Yes, with appropriate battening and consideration for the weight of slate (which is heavier than tiles or metal). Your roof structure may need assessment by a structural engineer, which we can coordinate.
