We had a few Sydney-based slate companies to repair the slate roof after storm damage, with not a great outcome, including cracked slates remaining and several leaks through, inferior workmanship..  I then called Oliver Stearman at Slate Roof Restorations who was able to fix all problems, including the  water leaks and secure the roof, without over- promising and under-delivering, which was a constant with the previous companies. Slate is one of the most durable roofing materials available and can last well over a hundred years with the right care. We focus on preserving what’s there, securing loose tiles, replacing cracked ones, repairing flashings, and cleaning off moss, and only recommend a full replacement when it’s genuinely the better option.

Yes. We use reclaimed slate wherever possible to match the colour, texture, and size of your existing tiles. On Glebe’s historic terraces and early cottages, keeping the roof visually consistent is important, both for the character of the home and for meeting any heritage requirements that may apply to your property.

The most frequent issues we come across are cracked or slipping tiles, deteriorating lead flashings and metalwork, moss and lichen buildup, and ridge capping that needs repointing. Left unaddressed, any of these can lead to leaks and internal water damage. Catching them early through a routine inspection is the simplest way to avoid more costly repairs down the track.
